Welcome to Microsoft Excel 2003 provides a brief introduction to Excel. The book begins with a household inventory project that introduces students to the bare bones of working with spreadsheets. Formulas and functions are learned by creating a personal budget for students' granddaughter, Stefanie Beloff. Formatting, changing worksheet structure, and moving and copying data are taught while creating a spreadsheet for the Woodlake Women's Suburban tennis team lineup. Then, students use Stefanie's budget to create useful and colorful charts using Chart Wizard. Large spreadsheets are taught as Bobby and Kathy Bresson manage the remodeling of their bathroom. Students learn how to set up pages for printing as Julie Martin signs up for a 10K race, raises money for the event in the form of pledges, and then formats and prints a list of her donations. Finally, students add pizzazz to worksheets with WordArt, clip art and text boxes by helping Bobbie Sue Murdock create a final expense report for the Westwood Senior Center Picnic.
