New Payroll Accounting 5th edition - a practical approach that is easy to use.
This edition features updated 2017 IRS Forms and eLab Homework Grader to automatically grade practice sets and the Continuing Payroll Problem, with algorithmic exercises in the practice sets.
A new instructional design element for this edition is flowcharts that were inserted to visually represent the process of determining certain taxes (social security tax and Medicare tax). This is useful when an employee crosses an applicable threshold during the current period (either exceeds the Social Security tax wage base, or exceeds the Additional Medicare tax wage base during the current period), and it helps visually to understand the necessary steps in these instances.

Highlights for Payroll Accounting
We have emphasized topics most commonly addressed by all companies, and created targeted exercises to reinforce these concepts. Our solution contains trial access to QuickBooks trial software and an eLab license key which allows for automated grading of tests, practice sets, and the Continuing Payroll Problem.
Balance theory and practical skills.
We walk the student through the process of completing the forms and performing the calculations necessary to process payroll. Students master concepts and apply what they've learned by working through a progression of exercises. Case studies replicate real-world situations, giving your students the experience they need to be successful in today's workplace.
Ensure readiness with plenty of exercises.
Each chapter contains two practice sets to reinforce learning, and a third practice set included in the instructor support materials and eLab Homework Grader. A continuing project at the end of each chapter builds throughout the book to solidify concepts and best practices for students. The book concludes with a comprehensive, capstone project allowing students to demonstrate their ability to apply the concepts and skills that were learned.
Make the connection between payroll laws and specific actions.
Laws and concepts are aligned with payroll actions to help students connect the payroll-related tasks to the driving guidelines behind them.
Simplify teaching and learning. Our unique approach is driven by guiding principles based on years of refinement of an instructional design that engages students and makes learning easy and effective. Instructor resources reduce prep time and simplify instruction. And our commitment to value makes our solutions affordable for all types of students.
Automated grading with eLab. Payroll Accounting includes an eLab license key for automated grading, instant feedback, and eLearning resources. Creating a course is easy! View a video on how to get started. The new eLab Homework Grader automatically grades assignments and tests, and features algorithmic exercises for practice sets. You can manage grades within eLab or integrate with your LMS to manage grades from your standard gradebook.
Prepare students for the real world with payroll tools. Each book comes with 140-day QuickBooks trial software, providing a way to ensure every student experiences standard payroll tools.

Unable to adopt based on price but liked the content and book.
LabLearning Response: Thank you for the feedback! The appearance of our book may be small, but it’s got all the full content needed for a 3-4 credit Payroll course. It is being successfully used by many programs who feel the content is adequate and effective, especially with the practice sets included as part of the solution.

There are some calculating mistakes but good overall. It starts slowly enough for students to wrap their head around the material. The online homework checker is great!

Almost too simplified for college level course. The FUTA/SUTA chapter is especially lacking in detail. Several errors were found in the solutions manual.
LabLearning response: Thanks for the feedback! We will look into the possibility of adding details your mention, and have corrected all errors reported to us in the solution manual.

Used it last year and it worked well, (in spite of errors that are hopefully now fixed!). Need to use more continuing (comprehensive) type problems/ projects. Also, need more info on major state payroll/ employment laws... like CA. Use of Excel was very helpful... and "real world"! However, need to expand QuickBooks/ Sage projects. Will be using again this Spring & Summer. Best value for students too!

A little less in depth than the last text I used, but overall, should help students master the skills they need.
